Do you want to show your love for the planet? While Earth Day isn’t officially until Monday, Apr. 22, several groups across Virginia are celebrating early. We found five incredible events taking place throughout the commonwealth on Saturday.
Halifax Earth Day Extravaganza, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
209 S Main St, Halifax, VA 24558
Located right in the heart of picturesque Halifax, the town’s Earth Day event is one that you’ll definitely want to add to your calendar. The 16th annual extravaganza at the Halifax Market Place will feature food trucks, vendors and children’s activities. There will be a special emphasis on ways to love and care for “Mother Earth.”

Earth Day at Mount Trashmore 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
310 Edwin Dr, Virginia Beach, VA 23462
From educational talks to hands-on experiences, the celebration at Mount Trashmore arguably couldn’t happen at a better place—if you’re unfamiliar with the site’s history, the “mountains” on the property are actually covered landfill waste.
Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation will host the gathering, which seeks to “raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices.” Food trucks will be on site.

Earth Day Fairfax, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
3650 Historic Sully Way, Chantilly, VA 20151
Who’s up for a fun game, followed by some live music? Those are just a couple of the ways Fairfax plans to celebrate Earth Day. The event will feature hands-on activities, educational entertainment, and even an obstacle course!
For those hoping to savor the local flavors, craft beer and cuisine vendors will be on site. Attendees can also visit with furry farm friends, according to the event listing.

RVA Earth Day Festival, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Bryan Park 4308 Hermitage Rd, Richmond, VA 23227
There’s lots of fun taking place in Richmond at the city’s collaborative festival. Multiple local groups worked in unison to bring the big event together.
Shoppers will enjoy a stroll through the RVA Big Market, an opportunity to have a design placed on a shirt or tote bag (please bring your own), explore a variety of artist vendors, enjoy live music, and experience local food and drink options.

Sustain Abingdon Earth Day Celebration, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
208 W Main St, Abingdon, VA 24210
Taking place at the historic Fields-Penn House, there will be a multitude of organizations participating in Abingdon’s Earth Day Celebration. Sustain Abingdon—a local group making progressive strides toward becoming more energy efficient and environmentally friendly—will provide activities for children, food, and information at the special event.

Support Our Cause
Thank you for taking the time to read our work. Before you go, we hope you'll consider supporting our values-driven journalism, which has always strived to make clear what's really at stake for Virginians and our future.
Since day one, our goal here at Dogwood has always been to empower people across the commonwealth with fact-based news and information. We believe that when people are armed with knowledge about what's happening in their local, state, and federal governments—including who is working on their behalf and who is actively trying to block efforts aimed at improving the daily lives of Virginia families—they will be inspired to become civically engaged.
